Cancer Rising Traits
First, what does Cancer even mean? Cancer is the fourth zodiac sign, Water sign, cardinal sign and feminine sign.
Cancer Rising aka Cancer Ascendant
The first house is all about you. You are the embodiment of Cancer. In terms of personality, you are caring, nurturing, emotional, protective and motherly and maternal. You would love to play a nurturing role. Overall, you would be emotionally attached to your home and family. You would appreciate your family tradition as well as the history of your country. You may be patriotic.
As Cancer rules common people, you can have a strong appeal to a majority of people i.e. mediocre and middle classes. If your Moon is well-positioned and you don’t have a radical influence (Uranus, Saturn or Mars) in the first house, you tend to be well-liked and well-received by the public.
The first house rules your physical appearance. (Please note that if you have any planet in the first house or planet aspecting your first house, the physical traits will change accordingly.) But generally speaking, you may have pale skin tone, lighter eye color and rounded head. Later in life, you tend to put on weight around the belly and chest, because, like water, cells around these areas of your body want to stay close to one another. Cancer rules breast, abdomen, and stomach in the physical body. These parts of your body would be more vulnerable than other parts, especially when you get stressed.
People who have Cancer rising have more neurons located in the stomach than others. (Babies do too, but as they grow up, the number of neurons in this area generally decreases.) This actually allows you to feel through your stomach and makes you more sensitive to emotions.
Because your stomach is vulnerable, your diet and stress level may directly affect its condition. The stomach is known as the second brain, as it produces 90% of happy hormones such as serotonin and dopamine. If you eat poorly, you can be prone to having anxiety and depression. By simply eating healthy, however, you can relatively easily stay healthy. Unless you have Mars influence in the first house, your body would not be quite muscular. You may need to put a lot of effort to build muscles.
Moon – the ruler of Cancer – is the most changeable celestial body in the solar system. Literally, its shape changes every day at least from our perspective on this planet, but at the same time, it's one of the most predictable 'planet.' Like ebbs and flows, your overall life path has lots of ups and downs. Your mood can also change frequently. As you learn to go with the flow and enjoy your rides, you would have a fulfilling life.
Cancer is often symbolized by a shell. A shell itself is hard and rigid but what’s inside of it is extremely tender and soft. So, you would be private and introvert by nature but you would do anything to protect what you value at all costs. You are naturally in tune with your inner world, family, shelter, home and country. Even if you are open- minded and travel across the world, your identity is deeply rooted in the place of your birth. You also value history. You may be professionally or personally involved in any protective roles. You can be drawn to protecting the weak, the young, or property, land, or any beliefs that you want to preserve.
When you are emotionally and energetically aligned with who you truly are, you can easily tap into your own and others’ emotive drives. You can identify your emotional needs and feel others’ intentions without having tangible evidence. Your ability to create safe environments is one of your biggest gifts.
However, when you are out of alignment, you may build hard walls so others cannot invade your territory. Forming a codependent relationship is another negative expression of Cancer energy. You could demand others to need you and feel appreciated only when others validate your worthiness. As you raise your vibration and develop your intuition, however, you can express more of the positive traits of Cancer such as emotional security, safe environments and protection.
In this lifetime, you are aspiring to create your tribe. You are learning to protect what is valuable for you and how to nurture your inner world. A lot of people are mistaken that Cancer is sensitive, emotional and somewhat weak, but you are actually a warrior type person, as you have Aries in the tenth house, which I'll be explaining later. It’s important for you to develop nurturing qualities, intuition and emotional intelligence to activate your full potentials.
